I come from the country that invented Yoga. It is speculated that yoga was invented in the pre vedic ages but what ever the truth, it has certainly been around for centuries. As I expand my knowledge of building wellness I realize that there are a few essential ingredients to being fit – flexibility, a strong heart, strong lungs and muscle build up or strength. Yoga is a unique exercise that provides you all these benefits within one form of exercise.
Yoga combines various techniques that result in strength training or building muscle, deep breathing which helps build lungs and your heart, great body flexibility and a calming of your mind. It does this without much impact related stress on your body since it mostly involves stretching and using your own body weight to train your body. It also involves pranayama or deep breathing exercises which stimulates the parasympathetic system which calms your nerves. Finally yoga also involves mediation and relaxation which has a positive impact on stress relaxed oxidation of the body.
Best done in the morning on an empty stomach practicing yoga has multiple long term benefits.Yoga done right has a positive impact on your muscle strength, bone density, blood pressure, blood sugar, posture and flexibility. It also drains your lymph nodes, and regulates your adrenal glands. Because it is a non-impact form of exercise, it can also be practiced every single day unlike running for example.
The world recently celebrated International Yoga Day. It was not for nothing that the world has recognized the power of yoga to keep you physically and mentally fit.
