Pterostilbene

So you like chocolate and Red Wine. Its not your fault. Its just your body telling you to consume things that lengthen lifespan. Both contain resveratrol. Resveratrol in case you have not been reading my articles is known to help anti-oxidation and improve lifespan. Scientists are however constantly looking for the new elixir of life. Pterostilbene (pronounced tero-STILL-bean) is the new magic potion brewed by the druids. It is found predominantly in blueberries and grapes.

Resveratrol has long been known to help ageing. That is why doctors recommend drinking a glass of red wine occasionally. Over the past few years, researchers have demonstrated that Pterostilbene may have several times the impact. This is because it is apparently  more bio-avalable. More easily absorbed by the blood stream for laypersons like you and me. Researchers have tested the impact of P. on mice. Their research found that key lies in the ability of P. to boost mitochondria in the body. Mitochondria are literally the stuff that gives you the energy to function. As you age, your bodies ability to replenish mitochondria seems to reduce. Pterostilbene seems to augment your ability to create an enzyme called NAD. This helps create healthy mitochondria. The outcomes are improved brain functioning, reduced heart risks and reduced risk of cancer.  It is now making its way to the world market for human consumption as supplements.

If you prefer eating natural, consider shifting to North America. Most of the worlds blueberries are grown in North America and Canada. Of course you would have to eat blueberries all day to get the amount of P. required. Its holiday season. It may not be that hard to find ways to blend blueberries into your diet.
