Placebo’s

Are you easily fooled? Gullible enough to be talked into anything? If you are, you may just be in luck. Your ability to believe will heal you. It’s called the placebo effect. Researchers have demonstrated that patients respond to placebos. A placebo is a “make-believe” solution to an actual problem. A fake medicine or treatment for a headache. The medicine does not contain any chemicals. Nothing that can treat your headache. You respond regardless. Your headache goes away. You didn’t even need to invoke God.
Similar experiments were carried out on heart broken people. To demonstrate that even emotional challenges could be resolved through a placebo. In this experiment, heartbroken people were shown pictures of the people they with whom they had broken up. Next, they were subjected to a hot stimulus on the forearm. Both the responses were recorded through MRI recordings. In both, they showed elevated pain. Next, they were given a “powerful nasal spray.” One that could magically release them from emotional pain. At least that is what they were told. The one’s administered the spray showed remarkable improvement in their emotional response. The MRI showed that an area of the brain called the periaqce-ductal grey (PAG) showed increased activity. The PAG is responsible for modulating painkilling chemicals, and the happy hormone or dopamine.

Spiritual teachers have already known all of this for some time. It is called belief. Honestly, you don’t even need a God as the Buddhists have shown. You could easily believe in your ability to heal. If you are not religiously inclined, running does the same thing for you. It increases the production of pain-killing chemicals and happy hormones. As they say, the path to God may vary. In the end, finding God may not be that hard actually. She lies within.

N.B.: Please note that not all emotional or medical conditions can be resolved through placebo’s or belief. Often, you need professional medical advice.
