So you feel hungry all the time? Despair not, for you share the trait with all of mankind. In fact, every living thing. The strange thing is – how you deal with hunger impacts how you feel the next time. Our body does not react equally to everything you put in. Think of it as a choosy princess. Pick the wrong options and she would throw a tantrum. Make you ravenous again. Not long ago, when the bell tolled proclaiming dinner time, I could eat any amount of food put in front of me. Now, I can fast for a day and not notice. The change was an outcome of understanding food.

Your body takes different lengths of time to digest food. This was a revelation to me. You would forgive me for assuming food is food. However, your body treats water, simple carbs, complex carbs, protein and even fats differently. Your primary goal is to ensure adequate nutrition to your body. This is a function of eating sufficient calories and food that ensures you get all your vitamins and minerals. For the moment, I assume you know how to achieve this goal.

If you do, filling your stomach with water is easily the best option. Truly zero calorie, your body loves water. Drink it naturally or as green tea or equivalent. Next rely on good quality poly or mono unsaturated fats. Remember, calories are higher in fats so be careful about quantity. Your body takes almost three days to digest fat. Next, rely on protein. Your body can take up to two days to digest. Finally rely on complex carbs. Remember simple carbs – that biscuit with salt or sugar – is the worst possible thing to satiate your hunger. Its a simple carb and gone in a flash. All it does is make you hungry again in a few hours.
