Drumsticks

I learn something everyday and am constantly humbled by how much our nature has to offer for us to life a bountiful life. If you happened to read my article yesterday on Artificial Blood you would have noticed me talking about the possibility of living forever. I am increasingly of the view that if we lived the way nature intended us to live, we might live close to eternity anyways even without artificial blood.

The humble drumstick or Moringa comes loaded with Vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, C, Calcium, Iron, Potassium, Dietary fibre, Water, Carbohydrates, Protein, Sodium, Zinc, Phosphorus and more. Why would you not eat it. Drumsticks besides adding vital ingredients to your diet is used to cure headaches, epilepsy, eye disorders, bronchial asthma, gout, fever and digestion. Drumsticks can also be inhaled in water to help patients with asthma. It also acts like an anti oxidant because it contains Quercetin and Chlorogenic Acid both which act as powerful anti-cancer agents.

Drumsticks have a significantly higher amount of Vitamin and Minerals than many widely known fruits and vegetables such as carrot, spinach, oranges, banana. It also has twice as much protein as egg and yogurt. It therefore promotes a wide variety of health benefits such as bone density and bone health, muscle development and eyesight.

Drumsticks are widely used in Asian cuisines and for those with a more Western palate, it can be added to your cuisine in various forms including the leaf, in powder form in your soup or stew or also as an oil. Just remember to verify that it comes from a fresh source and has not been diluted in any manner. Excess heat damages the drumstick ability to import nutrients and therefore adding it at the end of your cooking is ideal.
