Death & Taxes

Death and Taxes are often cited as axioms of things we take for granted. You are likely to pay taxes and likely to pass on at some point in your life. There are now increasingly scientists around the world who would argue with the second axiom. Some now arguethat anyone who is under the age of 60 years and relatively healthy, is likely to live on to be at least a 150 years or more. There is no reason why you cant.

In fact, Dr. Aubrey de Grey believes that you can live to be a 1000 years old. Not just that, the person who will live to be a 1000 years old has already been born. Dr. Grey’s mission is to end aging. He runs the SENS Research Foundation, the goal of which is to make the world free of age-related disease. He believes that in the next twenty years, science will have perfected the solution to make aging redundant. You will not age, and if you do, science can reverse it.

Aging and death are caused by various factors – chief among which is tissue and cell death, free radicals, shortening of your mitochondria, hardening of your cells, and plaque build up. Scientists are now increasingly beginning to believe that if you can address these issues, you can reverse aging and prevent death.

Science is one way to prevent or delay aging. There is another way to look at this issue. Living a healthy life with adequate sleep, proper nutrition, appropriate exercise and a stress-free life. You will easily live a good life well into old age. Of course, if your lifestyle fails you, science will always serve as a backup. Someday artificial blood will take over and make even the need for a good lifestyle redundant. The fabric of society will have to undergo a change at that point.
