Attract life

Unfortunately, life does not play out like in the movies. Occasionally though, movies manage to capture a sliver of real life. They depict things as they might happen, even if it were you living the story. The movie Bruce Almighty was on television. For those who haven’t seen it, its a story about a reporter. Everything seems to be going wrong for this person. He blames God for his woes, until  one day, God appears and gives him the powers to do anything he wishes. Play god for a while he is told. Thus begins an interesting journey.

What struck me was how this character uses his God like powers. Obviously he first uses all his powers to right the wrongs in his life. This includes taking revenge on people he works with and others who have troubled him in the past. He next uses his powers to advance his career, which was otherwise languishing. Armed with divine powers, there are virtually no obstacles. He can even concoct reality to meet his goals. Since he is God, he can draw the moon in closer to impress his girlfriend, never mind the consequences.

The interesting thing about this story was that his actions were limited by his imagination. His actions revolved around what he craved for and wished to happen. He didn’t suddenly develop a desire to be Justin Beiber and thankfully not a drug lord either. In our everyday lives, God does not appear in a white suit. At least for most of us! However, the power to attract the life we want to make resides in us never the less. It is our thoughts and actions that govern our future. The outcome may not always be what you want. Life will not transport you from being a reporter to being the lead singer for U2. You have to imagine for it to be so. Be careful what you wish for.
