57 Channels and there is nothing on

It is fairly commonplace in the lives we live today to come home in the evening, throw your feet up on the table and put on the television. You might even break open that bottle of wine or whiskey. I am ignoring the chips and peanuts for now. It is an excellent way to unwind or so people would have you believe.

Alcohol is, in fact, a depressant and neurotoxin. As the wine or whiskey enters your bloodstream, some of it also makes its way into your brain. The alcohol slows down the activity of the brain by reducing its ability to transmit signals. Also, alcohol has toxins which need to be broken down by your liver. What you have ended up doing is cause insult ( the biological term for stress) to your body. Both your liver and your brain now need to work hard to eliminate the stuff you just put in. Your body will undoubtedly feel the stress. The stress can be easily measured if you were to strap yourself to a machine.

As if this was not enough, we have created a heady cocktail by throwing in television into the pot (pardon my hashed metaphor). Television, and also all other devices that emit blue light are extremely harmful to you just before sleep. The harm caused by blue light is because it helps create alertness. In simple terms, blue light tells you that it is time to wake up. Weren’t you trying to unwind from your stressful day and lull yourself into bed? Add the snacks that we had set aside prior to this heady mix, and we have just managed to brew the perfect recipe for disaster.

Eight hours of deep sleep each night is worth even more than several hours at the gym, or a healthful diet Will you think about this before trying to lull yourself into slumber tonight?
